“Nicolae Ursu” Ethno-Musicological Research Center and Banat Collection of Ethnomusicological Restitutions

Benefiting from the professional expertise and quality of scientific and cultural contributions of its members, the NICOLAE URSU ETHNO-MUSICOLOGICAL RESEARCH CENTER was established in 2022 as an integral part of the ASSOCIATION FOR BANAT CULTURE.

Our initiative was supported by Timotei Ursu – son of the distinguished university professor, folklorist, and Banat composer Nicolae Ursu, as a sign of tribute, appreciation, and also unconditional support for our present and future scientific endeavors.

The urgent need for establishment – a premiere in the field of Ethno-Musicology – was created by the impasse, stagnation, and even non-existence before and after 1990 of research concerns regarding Banat musical folklore due to multiple factors. Our efforts ensure continuity towards understanding and valorizing the contributions of Banat folklorists from the beginning of the last century and especially the contributions of current research.

Our goal thus creates the BANAT COLLECTION OF ETHNOMUSICOLOGICAL RESTITUTIONS aimed at restoring, restituting, and providing interdisciplinary and syncretic interpretation of our cultural and scientific heritage values.
